Ready or Not Review: A Terrifying Game of Survival

Ready or Not: A Thrilling Horror Movie for the Adventurous

What would you do if your in-laws wanted to kill you on your wedding night? That’s the premise of the 2019 movie, Ready or Not, directed by Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett.Ready or Not is a horror-comedy that follows the story of Grace (played by Samara Weaving), who marries into the wealthy Le Domas family.

When a game of hide-and-seek turns into a deadly hunt, Grace must fight for her survival against her new in-laws while the clock ticks down to dawn.

The movie starts with a fairy-tale-like introduction of the Le Domas family’s origins. The Le Domas family made their fortune through board games, and they continued the tradition of playing games when they have guests.

When the immediate family members welcomed Grace, she had to pick a card that would determine the game she would play to welcome her to the family. Unfortunately for Grace, she picked the card that declared her husband Alex’s family tradition: to play a game with the newest member of the family.

Ready or Not is not just a horror movie, but also a horror-comedy, which is a delightful surprise for the audience. The movie pokes fun at the wealthy and their eccentricities, including their obsession with board games.

It also provides comedic relief in the middle of the film’s intense moments.

Samara Weaving is the lead actress in the movie, and she shines as Grace. She portrays Grace’s transformation from a nervous and naive bride to a fighter determined to outwit her in-laws.

The supporting actors also did an excellent job of portraying their characters.

The movie’s setting, a grand mansion, also deserves praise. The cinematography is exceptional, with the camera angles making the mansion appear both enchanting and ominous.

The movie’s lighting and sound design also added to its overall effect.

Ready or Not is a thrilling and entertaining film. It combines heart-racing suspense with comedic relief, making it an ideal movie for a fun movie night with friends.

The acting, cinematography, and setting are all worth mentioning, making it a well-crafted piece of cinema. However, the movie is not for the faint of heart.

It has bloody scenes and some gore, making it unsuitable for younger viewers. So, are you ready to play?
